At my age I am not often surprised or hyped but this caught me off guard. Oh so many memories and legendary swordfights. This is definitely one of the things, that strongly shaped my character and my life. Also: Grog is bad for you :P

I live outside of Germany for 20 years now but once in a while I come across stuff that makes me remember what a wonderful (horrible) language this is. Also the people using it.

I just learned two things:

1) the word for the fumes that are emitted while cooking in German is not “Dampf” (steam from boiling water) or “Rauch” (smoke from fire) but “Wrasen” – meaning “a wet fog smelling of food, possibly saturated with fat”.

2) there exist absorbers that are called “Kopffreihauben” meaning “head free absorbers” – it does prevent your head from bonking – so if you are considering updating – this is a thing ;)

German is a weaponized language!
